To help youth discover themselves and their full potential in our unique Montessori environment,
inspiring excellence and empowering them to shape their world.

Our goal for our students is to find joy in learning, to embrace their full potential and to become life-long learners. We establish high expectations for all students and provide them with the choices and experiential learning which, along with differentiated instruction, guidance, and necessary resources, allows each learner to achieve their potential.

We empower students to become responsible, productive and caring citizens with a sense of social justice and an understanding of environmental stewardship. Together, our staff, students, parents and community members foster and support a positive environment. Immersed in a core of experiential education, students learn from one another in a collegial environment. Through engaging in developmental activity, they achieve success in problem solving by cultivating their individual talent. This develops students who are firmly grounded with a strong sense of themselves and the world in which they live.

Montessori Teaching

Our use of Montessori principles recognizes the unique needs of this age group and the individuality of each student. We deliver learning experiences that are exciting and relevant to the present and future growth of each student in our school community.  Our academically rigorous program challenges students to develop their mental, physical and social potential so as to better prepare them to meet the demands of maturity.  Through this process, each student is effectively prepared with a deep base of experience. They are guided to develop positive self-image, sensitivity and compassion towards others and their environment, along with an awareness of the responsibilities of citizenship.

West Wind originated as the senior campus of Dearcroft Montessori School (est. 1968), and acted as an independent preparatory day school program offering Senior Elementary (grades 4 – 6) and Junior High (grades 7/8).  In 2008, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Dearcroft Montessori, we combined as a single campus.  Our program is now fully operated from the Dearcroft campus at 1167 Lakeshore Road East, Oakville.
